Talking Boxes

Communication devices for casual interaction between distant social spaces.

The Talking Boxes support informal social interaction and chance encounters between distant social spaces such as cafes, pubs, foyers and other places where people naturally gather for casual interaction. They provide an always-on point-to-point audiovisual connection within an attractively designed physical object, appropriate for coffee tables, bar counters and other informal surfaces.

Commission by Distance Lab to research, design and manufacture 12 Talking Boxes, scheduled to launch at the GloNet event at FutureEverything festival in May 2010.

They were dispatched to Sendai (JP), Istanbul (TK), Sao Paolo (BR), Vancouver (CA) and Manchester (UK) and connected the remote festival attendants.
